Longwave still alive in 2024: 189kHz - RÚV Rás 2 Iceland received in Bochum, Germany
RÚV Rás 2 from Gufuskálar (Hellissandur), Iceland (100kW, 2315km) is still being very alive in 2024 and booming into my location with probably its strongest signal ever. The TEF6686 + an FM yagi antenna seem to work surprisingly well on long wave. I was a regular overnights listener of RÚV Rás 2 on 207kHz until they shut down in early 2023. Gufuskálar on 189kHz, being located in the west of Iceland, always came in considerably weaker, usually too weak to actually listen to any programming. This reception (made on 7 April 2024), however, is as strong or even a little stronger than 207kHz ever was at my location in Germany. Apparently, Gufuskálar on 189kHz will also close down in the near future, so let's enjoy it while it lasts.
The TEF6686 was tuned to 188kHz rather than 189kHz to avoid interference from BBC Radio 4 on 198kHz.
