This one simple question will tell you if your partner is happy
Dr. Samantha Joel is an associate professor in social, personality, and developmental psychology at Western University. She studies relationships and why people make the choices to be with the people they've chosen to be their partners.
She compiled data from hundreds of studies on relationships, with tens of thousands of couples' information. Her research team used AI machine learning to analyze this massive data set, which included just about everything you can imagine: Income, race, education, physical appearance, mental health, sexual preferences, frequency, hobbies, politics, religion, children, and much more.
What came out of this analysis was rather shocking and surprising. All of these factors, including things that people have in common had nothing to do with happiness in a relationship. All of those things that we place so much importance on like having similar interests, and dating apps flaunt as dimensions of compatibility made no difference in whether or not people were happy with their husbands, wives, girlfriends, boyfriends, and partners.
Joel figured out that the main common denominator reflecting relationship satisfaction was whether or not someone was happy with their lives and themselves before they entered into a relationship.
Why are we placing so much importance on things that ultimately don't matter in a relationship? Joel goes on to say that people really aren't that choosey when picking a partner. If the way we're picking relationships is all wrong, what's the right way to find someone we can spend our lives with?
