Radioactivity, gamma decay. After a radioisotope has emitted an alpha particle or beta particle the daughter nucleus usually has excess energy. The proton and neutron in the daughter nucleus then rearrange slightly and offload this excess energy by releasing a gamma ray, these are high energy electromagnetic radiation and so have no mass, no charge and travel with a speed of light.
