Dedicated to American composer Ben Johnston, sometimes called "one of the best non-famous composers the USA has to offer". Ben Johnston passed away in the summer of 2019 and I was inspired to write this music as an homage to him. I asked some musicians to record their parts separately, and combined the music together at home.
This arrangement was inspired by Ben Johnston's 4th string quartet. That work consists of several variations on the hymn 'Amazing Grace' and has always captivated me. In honor of Ben Johnston I selected 'America the Beautiful' and wrote my own variations for string quartet on that original music.
