Join the Center for Regenerative Medicine to be a part of one of the leading teams in the world transforming the treatment of diseased, damaged or congenitally absent tissues and organs, including complex heart and airway defects, through regenerative medicine.
Its research focuses include tissue engineered vascular grafts, heart valves and trachea. These programs have the potential to drastically minimize complications that currently arise from the use of synthetic materials in surgery, including lack of growth capacity, blood clotting, increased risk of infection and poor durability. Tissue engineered vascular grafts, for example, are a superior option for pediatric congenital heart patients because a child’s own cells are used to “grow” new tissues that are used to repair their heart defects. Using these living constructs eliminates the need for immunosuppression or anti-rejection medications. The tissues are also are capable of renewal and regeneration, meaning they grow with the children who receive them, decreasing the number of follow-up surgeries needed. The center also researches state-of-the-art quantitative imaging techniques that possess potential for clinical translation, with a focus on imaging of cardiovascular disease.
The collaborative, multidisciplinary team in Center for Regenerative Medicine is dedicated to educating the next generation of researchers and clinicians in the study and implementation of regenerative therapies while advancing basic and clinical research in the field.
