The Chumash Museum

Tucked away in a natural setting among the hills of Thousand Oaks, the Chumash Indian Museum has something for everybody of all ages. Part of the Oakbrook Regional Park, the Museum is a historical site and living history center. It provides visitors with insights into how the Chumash lived, their culture and harmony with nature.

The size of the museum has not affected the quality of the displays, which is as high you will find in a national museum. The museum offers Chumash culture with examples of artifacts, hunting, fishing and farming tools in a relaxing, authentic and informative way.

The Chumash Indian Museum makes for a nice side trip for part of your day. Easy to find but check for hours before visiting. If you time it right, there are special events and pow wows. There are also docent led hikes to caves in the area that have Chumash pictographs.

A great location to learn about local native Americans, with insights about southern California and the culture and heritage of the Chumash people.

It is an opportunity to explore and appreciate the wonderful oak trees and trails of Oakbrook Park. A state designated archaeological site and beautiful example of the rich landscape where the Chumash people flourished for generations.
