Deploying virtual appliances on vPhone ESXI 6 7 and MiVoice Connect 14. 2
The 14.2 method to import ova files no does not work with modern versions of VMWare ESXi. That does not mean if you have a modern version of VMWare you cannot use virtual appliances.
We create the virtual phone switch in Director in the same manner. We select the ShoreTear vPhone Switch in the new Primary and select new. Enter the name, description, IP address, MAC address and the max phone capacity. Where the Download switch image line is hover over to get the FTP directory where the files reside. Copy the BareMetalInstall iso to a safe location.
In VMWare the first step is to upload the ISO file to the VMWare datastore. Now create a new virtual machine. For compatability select ESXi 5.5. Guest OS family is Linux and the build is any other 2.6 32 bit. Select your datastore and next. Provision your machine. Here we will go with 1 CPU, 1 GB or RAM and 20 GB hard disk. The hard disk is buslogic paralell and the network adapter is VMXNet3 Browse the datastore for your ISO file and confirm that the status is set to connect at power on. Select next and finish. Boot your VM.
Open the console and wait for the device to boot. Complete the information in the wizard. The process took about 3 minutes on my ESXi server.
At the login prompt the default admin and ShoreTel switch credentials are used. Enter stcli for the menu. Then check diagnostics and monitoring for the phone switch to connect. Once the virtual phone switch shows green you are finished.
