The poorly-named Cayman GT4 is not a GT4 car. Instead, it’s a medium weight sports car with a moderate power output of about 380bhp. Brought in by JdougNY/GVSE under the pcars modding team moniker, this car is well balanced and tuned, but suffers the problem that many cars in this class suffer, both ingame and irl. In pursuit of laptimes these cars are fitted with huge tires that deaden the otherwise adequate power output and numb the balance. This Cayman comes with 235’s on the front and 290’s on the rear, and while it’s well balanced it gives an anaemic impression to corner exit when the car is unable to break away properly under throttle. To put it into perspective, Formula Drift cars commonly run rear tires around the 290 range and nowadays no car under about 850bhp has a chance of competing in the pro class as a result because they just can’t break away well enough. The ability to put the standard P-Zero tire on helps with this and it’s more fun with that tire. The handbrake also helps for people wanting to get properly sideways, though the real car doesn’t have one that works like that.
All this negativity detracts from something very important in this car when driving on tighter circuits: it’s got a H-pattern gearbox and perfect braking balance. You’ll see in the video that shift locking and balancing the car on the brakes is possible to a degree that I haven’t seen in the game before, as the balance and modernity of the 911GT3RS combines with the more analogue nature of the H-pattern box. The engine may not be powerful enough for the grip, but the braking balance is good enough that it is still worth a download, particularly for wheel users.
