Phase 2 of the Thoma Holz project
Phase two of the Thoma Holz project is underway with the lifting of several solid wood pre-engineered roof panels into place. After installing all of the first floor wall panels, ceiling panels, and second floor wall panels during phase one, we are now ready to install the roof panels on the project.
The roof panels are lifted into place via crane by A and A Crane and Rigging Company, out of Bridgeport Connecticut. They carefully lift and set the panels in an overlapping fashion, with a ship lap detail, and then the panels are screwed into place with long wood screws through the panels, and into all of our support walls and steel beams. This process is going fairly smooth, due to the precise engineering and milling of the panels themselves, and the careful set by the Wells framing crew.
All of the panels will be set in similar fashion across the entire length of the building, and then a weather resistant vapor barrier wrap will be installed to keep the building weather tight.
The majority of the panels represent the finished walls and ceilings. So much care has been taken to keep them clean and dry during the construction process. The building’s exterior has been wrapped in reinforced clear plastic to keep the weather out until we can get the blue skin weather barrier in place.
Our scope of work in Phase three, will entail a traditional stick frame section on top of the roof panels, to create some architectural details in the overhangs, create an area for insulation and mechanicals, and build a second story deck over the garage space.
