Laser light usually a spatially coherent, narrow low-divergence beam, that can be manipulated with lenses. The light emitted by a laser is confined to a rather narrow cone; but, as the beam propagates outward, it slowly diverges or fans out.
The beam diameter is the most important propagation-related attribute of a laser beam. The beam divergence of a laser beam is a measure for how fast the beam expands as it propagates in space.
