Gut bacteria which produce butyrate. They include phylum Firmicutes, in particular Faecalibacterium prausnitzii and Clostridium leptum of the family Ruminococcaceae, and Eubacterium rectale and Roseburia spp. of the family Lachnospiraceae.
Butyrate is a major short-chain fatty acid produced during gut flora-mediated fermentation of dietary fibers. They are found in legumes (beans, peas, and soybeans), fruits, nuts, cereals, and whole grains, as well as in butter and cheese.
