While it's not widely known, capsicum plants, belonging to the genus Capsicum, can have an average lifespan of 6-10 years. The duration depends on environmental conditions and species characteristics. In our 5b Ontario climate zone, I've successfully grown these plants as annuals. By starting them from seeds indoors in February and transplanting seedlings outdoors in mid-May after the last frost, I've achieved abundant pepper berries. However, in our climate, they typically remain green until September, with little chance of turning red on the plant.
