👉 Conducting research in areas where humanitarians are needed is essential to advance medicine in Africa. Unfortunately, it is very hard to fund these types of projects.

🔬🎥 In the third episode of our "Researchers and Humanitarians" webseries, we explain why it is crucial to align funding between research and humanitarian action, and how, together, we can change the game.

"If we do the research without doing the [humanitarian] response, we run the risk of doing things that are not ethical... It makes for good scientific papers, but then the people on the ground don't benefit from them", explains Laurens Liesenborghs, Infectious Disease Physician and researcher at the Institute of Tropical Medicine in Antwerp.

"I'm banking on clinical research in conjunction with humanitarians..." adds Karine Lacombe, Head of the Infectious and Tropical Diseases Department at Saint-Antoine Hospital in Paris.

"African researchers are best placed to meet the challenges of improving health in their countries," stresses Eric d'Ortenzio, of ANRS-MIE.
