Exploring the James Webb Telescope
Welcome to a journey through the cosmos. Today, we're exploring the most powerful space telescope ever built the James Webb Telescope.
Webb will study every phase in the history of our universe, ranging from the first luminous glows after the big bang, to the formation of solar systems capable of supporting life on planets like Earth, to the evolution of our own solar system. It will build on the Hubble Space Telescope's discoveries.
Webb is able to see what the universe looked like around a quarter of a billion years( possibly back to 100 million years) after the Big Bang, when the first stars and galaxies started to form.
Scientists can directly compare those conditions to the objects and dust observed around other stars. The sensitive instruments on the James Webb Space Telescope will be able to obtain infrared images of giant planets and planetary systems and characterize their ages and masses by measuring their spectra.
The James Webb Space Telescope has detected the most distant active supermassive black hole. The galaxy that hosts the ancient black hole, CEERS 1019, formed fairly early in the universe's history, just 570 million years after the Big Bang.
The James Webb Telescope represents a new era in space exploration, inspiring future generations of scientists.
