I'll be honest, I don't watch a lot of football/soccer (yeah, I watch plenty of American football), but love this song and hope to visit Liverpool at some point in my life. Thanks to a buddy of mine for suggesting this one. Considering my obsession with the Beatles, covering a song by Gerry and the Pacemakers wasn't much of a stretch. The original vocals by Gerry himself were just pure emotion and encouragement, like smooth low-acid medium roast espresso. I can see why the good fans of Liverpool FC embrace this as their anthem. Because it's damn good. As always with these, hope I did it justice.
Musically, I did everything by ear based on the original - arppeggio'd chords on piano (not difficult, but not repetitive and pretty unique), some simple electric strums, a basic swing beat, and my own synth cellos that I hammered out on the keyboard. Thanks again, BBC Labs, for the sweet soundfont. If you're still reading this, cool. Fact: The song was originally in the musical / musical movie Carousel (1945)... and just covered by Gerry and MANY other artists.
