If you ever wanted to upgrade to Windows 98 SE from the RTM version (First Edition), it's possible to do it. All you need the Windows 98 Second Edition Updates disc to perform the installation and upgrade. If you installed Windows 98 First Edition from the floppy disk installation, you'll need to copy the WIN98 folder from the Windows 98 Second Edition Updates disc to the C:\WINDOWS\OPTIONS\CABS directory so you don't have to worry about inserting the Windows 98 CD all the time. The installation will save and retain all of your personal settings. If you're upgrading from Windows 3.1 or Windows 95 you'll need the Retail Upgrade copy of Windows 98 SE, please note that when you upgrade from Windows 95 or Windows 98 First Edition to Windows 98 SE it doesn't give you an option to install any components even though you can install them later on. To install any missing components like the built-in desktop themes and the games which wasn't included in the floppy disk version of Windows 98, you'll have go in Add/Remove Programs go to the Windows Setup tab to install any components.
