Qualcomm has launched the artificial intelligence generator Stable Diffusion on the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor. This is stated in the official blog of the mobile processor manufacturer Snapdragon.
Typically, artificial intelligence generators run on powerful PC graphics cards or in data centers. However, Qualcomm has developed a way to run an AI generator on an Android smartphone.
On Thursday, Qualcomm demonstrated the Stable Diffusion AI generator on the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor, which is used in smartphones including the Samsung Galaxy S23 series.
In the demonstration, Qualcomm sends a text query and asks Stable Diffusion to create an image of a "mega cute fluffy cat warrior in armor". The AI-powered program created the image using the latest-generation Snapdragon processor in just 14.4 seconds. This compares to the result of Stable Diffusion running on a PC.
This result was achieved by "quantizing" the artificial intelligence computational model for Stable Diffusion and optimizing it to run on Qualcomm's latest smartphone chip.
As a result, Qualcomm has achieved an AI generator on a mobile device that could be useful for various applications in the future. In addition, the company plans to integrate Stable Diffusion into Snapdragon-based Android smartphones for widespread use in the future.
