Harmony Of Hands is an innovative creative partnership between the University of Johannesburg’s Centre for Education Rights and Transformation (CERT), the African Left-Handers Foundation (ALHF), the Domingo Effect, NONi’s Home Dish, and Umoya Creations.

The Harmony Of Hands Indaba & Festival will be held on the 17th of September 2024 at the University of Johannesburg (UJ), South Africa. The hybrid event will take place both online and at UJ’s Keorapetse William Kgositsile Theatre and specially dedicated outdoor spaces adjacent to the building.

Our integrated programme will present activities including speeches, music, poetry, spoken word performance, dance, visual arts, ritual ceremony, food, and other forms of cultural expression.

We look forward to you joining us as we use the creative arts to actively endorse, in the words of Dr Julie Reddy, one of our core team members, “an inclusive and equitable quality education” and promote “lifelong learning opportunities for all”.

We hope to engage you through the arts as a critical means of delving into the depths of society’s inequalities in a world designed predominantly in favour of right-handed people in most respects - from a pair of cutting scissors to a can opener, and a classroom desk.

Together we will creatively challenge the prejudices, taboos, and oppressive policies that cause all manner of damage to the left-handed community mostly through the use of violence and other forms of human rights violations.

The central Harmony Of Hands team of artists who will perform and lead creative workshops for children and adults includes our Musical Director Muhammad Dawjee, Nish Pillay, Lu Dlamini, Buyi Qubeka, Mabeleng Moholo, and Sizwe Mondlane with a few members of the UJ Choir.
