One of the key focus areas this month is the installation of expansion joints, and modular expansion joints as they are the type being installed on the Gordie Howe Bridge. These joints play a very important role in keeping the bridge safe and strong for years to come. Let's break down how they work and what goes into putting them in place.
As we look forward to the bridge's opening in fall 2025, it's worth noting that while most of the project is progressing smoothly, there has been some controversy. One disappointment is the bridge will open without a duty-free shop, which has raised questions among some stakeholders. The bridge authority is looking at possible solutions to this important component to an international crossing. So, if picking up tax free cigarettes and alcohol is a priority the Ambassador or the Tunnel are the place to cross, for now.
