Experience Sergei Eisenstein’s legendary silent masterpiece Battleship Potemkin (1925) in stunning 4K restoration with English subtitles.
Widely regarded as one of the greatest films ever made, this revolutionary Soviet classic is famous for its groundbreaking montage editing, political power, and the unforgettable Odessa Steps sequence, which changed cinema forever.
Set during the 1905 Russian Revolution, the film dramatizes the mutiny aboard the Imperial Russian Navy battleship Potemkin, where oppressed sailors rise against brutal officers after being forced to eat maggot-infested meat. Their rebellion ignites public outrage in Odessa, culminating in one of the most harrowing depictions of state violence in film history.
Brief Synopsis
In June 1905, the battleship Potemkin of the Imperial Russian Navy becomes the center of a historic mutiny when sailors protest against brutal discipline and rotten, maggot-infested food. Led by Vakulinchuk and Matyushenko, the crew rises up, overthrowing their officers but losing Vakulinchuk in the struggle.
When the ship reaches Odessa, Vakulinchuk’s death sparks mass public demonstrations against the Tsarist regime. The government responds with merciless force, massacring civilians on the famous Odessa Steps. In defiance, the Potemkin fires upon military headquarters and sails out to confront the Tsar’s fleet—only for the approaching warships to refuse battle and salute the revolution instead.
