SC-1000 is Orenda's phosphate-free chelating agent. It isolates metals and minerals in solution (by binding to their electrons) to prevent carbonate scale formation and metal stains in swimming water. It can also help prevent other forms of water fouling that occurs in industrial systems like cooling towers and other closed-water systems.
SC-1000 can remove hardened scale over time. Unlike acid-based products, SC-1000 has a slightly alkaline pH, and chemically breaks calcium down. It is far less aggressive than what acid does. If you're looking for a scale remover or stain remover, consider SC-1000, and give it some time to work.
Great for pool startups to protect new plaster surfaces during the curing process. Calcium oxide (CaO) hydrates (+ H2O) and releases Calcium Hydroxide (Ca(OH)2) aka "plaster dust". This release of super high pH calcium hydroxide (12.6 pH) makes the LSI locally to the surface spike very high, which combines with CO2 in the water, or carbonate ions (CO3), to create calcium carbonate (plaster dust). With SC-1000 poured in while your pool is filling up, the plaster dusting problem can be minimized. That is, of course, if you are balancing the water to be LSI compliant within 24 hours.
