Carbonate scale in swimming pools is a common problem, and is the consequence of a high-LSI violation. It is simply the result of excess calcium carbonate (CaCO3) that can no longer be held in solution, and it precipitates out in the hottest water available.

The way to remove carbonate scale is either manually removing it (like bead blasting, sanding, or scraping), or chemically. SC-1000 and the LSI are a proven way to chemically soften and remove scale from tile lines, spillways, salt chlorine generators (salt cells) and heat exchangers. Here's the written procedure:
