Who'd believe that riding with shorter cranks would deliver a stronger sprint? In this pilot study I've found a 7% average increase in sprint performance using a 15 mm shorter crank set, and a peak performance gain of 13%.
I've changed down from 175mm cranks to 160mm cranks and have seen improvements in many aspects of my cycling performance. Not only are my hips more comfortable (which is why I needed to make the change in the first place), but my climbing is stronger, my heart rate is lower and my FTP is better.
Today in this video I'm checking out 5 second maximal sprint performance and in keeping with the rest of my findings so far, I'm sprinting stronger with 160mm cranks!
