Beethoven passed away on March 26, 1827,at the age of 56. His funeral was held 3 days later on March 29 and it was attended by a large number of mourners, including fellow musicians, friends, and admirers.
The funeral procession was a grand affair, with estimated 20-30000 people lined the route of the funeral, which began at the Schwarzspanierhaus, where Beethoven had died, and proceeded through the streets of Vienna to the Währing Cemetery, where he was laid to rest.
