THE KNIT SHOW: The Lace Episode (Knitting and Crochet)
On The Lace Episode of The Knit Show with Vickie Howell we open ourselves up to lace -- the fabric style created by playing with negative space, using both knit and crochet techniques.
First up, we meet this week’s Knit Hive!
Next we head on over to the studio to hang out with our first guest, designer and co-owner of ModeKnit Yarns, Annie Modesitt. Annie uses her background as a costume designer, combined with her years of knitting expertise to explain the diamond lace technique she used in her Girl’s Best Friend Kerchief.
This episode’s field trip takes us to a woodworking studio where we meet-up with the founder of Furl’s Crochet. Harrison Richards tells us the story of how he as a teenager started making hooks because he was in love with a crocheter, and how a few years later he turned it into a viable company. Then, he demonstrates how his signature hand-turned wooden hooks are made.
Later we’re back in the studio to get our crochet on. Designer and yarn company owner, Kristin Omdahl takes us through the steps of making an easy-breezy vest that’s perfect paired with jeans, or worn over yoga clothes.
