The first underwater footage of the motor ship "Armenia", which perished in 1941 off the coast of Crimea with thousands of people on board.
In March 2020, the Russian Ministry of Defense, using a side-scan sonar, discovered the hull of a sunken vessel whose dimensions matched those of the motor ship "Armenia". The identification was carried out by specialists from the Underwater Research Center of the Russian Geographical Society.
For a detailed survey of the object, located 15 nautical miles from the shore at a depth of 1,500 meters, a remotely operated unmanned underwater vehicle (ROV) of domestic production of the "RT" series was used, which made it possible to obtain the first video footage. The continuous survey of the hull by the underwater robot lasted 6 hours.
