Stellar Blade has finally released on PC after a long, successful year of PS5 exclusivity. And while everyone is diving into Death Stranding 2, I decided to revisit not just one of the biggest surprises of last year — but one of the best games of 2024.
The narrative surrounding Stellar Blade is no secret: the character designs, the skins, comparisons with Nier: Automata, and even the developer's/director multiple commentaries have dominated the conversation surrounding the game since its launch. But while most people focus on this surface-level discourse, I see a far greater game underneath — one with a tight gameplay formula that keeps you glued to your seat that is very reminiscent of the golden days of the PS2 era.
Stellar Blade isn’t perfect, but it’s absolutely better than many of the early reviews suggested. And while the PC release is sure to bring weird mods and even weirder reviews, that shouldn’t overshadow the game’s real strengths nor cloud your judgment towards the product.
Stellar Blade is a game worth your time, and one that will completely shatter your expectations if you give it a try without any biases or preformed opinions. It's a game that simply wants you to have fun — made with a lot of heart and creative freedom, and with loads of content for you to uncover for free — something that, sadly, isn't that common in today's AAA market.
If you enjoy action games with a mix of Souls-like and a certain hack-and-slash flair — with good level design, side content, and solid exploration full of secrets and things to collect — do yourself a favor: ignore the noise and give the game a try. I can almost guarantee you that you will be pleasantly surprised by the depth behind this game's ideas.
TLDR: If you’ve been wondering “Is Stellar Blade worth playing on PC?” — the answer is yes, it's way better than what people give it credit for.
