There are 48 hours left until the Earth-Sun alignment - 3I/ATLAS, and so far NASA has not released the HiRISE camera images showing the best of 3I/ATLAS. This will simply be the best view we'll ever have of 3I/ATLAS—three times more resolution than the best image obtained to date, which was taken by the Hubble Telescope.
And if you're wondering about NASA's shutdown, Avi Loeb emphasized something important during an interview: the principal investigator for the HiRISE instrument is the University of Arizona, which doesn't rely on NASA to release any images. This breaks scientific protocol. What could be the reason behind hiding the best 3I/ATLAS image to date? Was it simply incompetence, government issues, or something else? It's worth wondering...
