🥵🔥 Can I, as an employee, get time off work due to heat? What we know from school—being excused from class when it's too hot—sounds quite plausible for the workplace, right?
☝️ First, it's important to understand that employers have a duty of care towards their employees. This duty of care includes protective measures to prevent risks to life and health. This also includes ensuring a tolerable room temperature at work. Three different temperature thresholds apply.
🌡️ Working is no longer possible or permitted at a room temperature of 35 degrees Celsius (95 degrees Fahrenheit). If the employer takes no action, you can contact the occupational health and safety authority, provided you have previously requested your employer to intervene without success.
