🧼🚿 Is it legal not to be paid for the time spent changing clothes and showering after a job that regularly leaves you dirty? This has been a subject of debate for years, but now the Federal Labor Court has issued a landmark ruling.
⚖️ The key point is: if protective clothing is required at work, the time spent changing and walking from the changing room to the workstation must be compensated. Shower time counts as paid working time if the level of soiling is so high that it is impossible for the employee to go home without showering first. This includes, for example, contact with hazardous substances or heavy soiling. Each type of work must be considered individually.
