What is the difference between VoIP and AoIP?
Voice over IP (VoIP) and Audio-over-IP (AoIP) may at first glance seem like the exact same technology.

But the difference in audio quality and application can be quite significant. The HowToAV.tv team compares the two technologies and, in particular, how they are being applied to the professional AV industry.
VoIP provides a highly effective telephony system by converting voice calls to data signals and integrating them as part of a WAN or LAN network system.
VoIP is also now increasingly being applied to Intercom and Door Access systems, allowing for full integration with standard Ethernet cable infrastructure and connectivity between door intercom devices and VoIP telephone systems.
This same technology is now also being implemented in multi-zone / multi-site public address systems for voice-only application.
However, due to the limited bandwidth of VoIP, these systems are only capable of Voice-quality audio broadcast.
Audio-over-IP (AoIP) uses an increased bandwidth to allow for much greater sound reproduction, therefore supporting background music, audio advertising and even broadcast-quality audio signal distribution over standard Ethernet infrastructure.
