In 2012, Christie® and RealTime Immersive collaborated to produce a Deep Sea Submersible Demonstrator using the DualView simulator technology.
The innovative DualView simulator concept developed by Christie can separately compute and render the same scene from two unique points of view with excellent image quality, allowing two operators to respond to their own, separately warped, full-screen image simultaneously. Four Christie Mirage Series projectors are synchronized over 8 networked pc's using CryENGINE® multichannel technology. Each projector displays only a small part of a larger image. Special calibration software then blends the four individual pictures together to create a seamless final image on the screen.
CryENGINE provided the realistic and immersive virtual underwater experience, allowing one operator to pilot the submersible and the second operator to manipulate a robotic arm to shut off a leaking oil valve on the ocean floor.
The results were well received by the I/ITSEC 2012 conference attendees and the DualView simulator demonstration was a clear example of a more immersive and more capable trainer.
