Walmart is the owner of Sam’s Club. Sam’s Club is named after the founder of both Sam’s Club and Walmart Sam Walton. The basics of the company involves them selling bulk goods advertised towards small business owners very cheaply. There were few staff and even less decorations. The items sold were brand name companies for much cheaper than anywhere else but if you want to buy it you need to but a lot of it.The company started in 1983 with the opening of 1 store in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma at first being called Sam’s Wholesale Club. This store was first places in Oklahoma City because Sam Walton wanted to place Sam’s Clubs in urban places giving access to customers his rural Walmarts were missing out on. The company quickly began to grow from this size and by the next year there were a total of three locations. The next year they added 8 more stores. the company was growing very fast. During the year 1986 Sam Walton made 46 million in profit from Sam’s Wholesale Club. That same year Sams club and many of their competitors went public.
In 1987 Sam's Club took over Super Savers Wholesale growing even further. In the 1990’s Sam’s Club was focusing on spreading to the Northeast finding good success. It wasn't until 1990 Sam's Wholesale Club officially changed its name to Sam’s club.
Sam’s Club and walmart compliment each well. Walmart is more for the everyday person and Sam’s Club is for small business owners. This covers almost every American. The two stores combined gives everyone a reason to go to a Walmart store.
Today sams club is one of the largest bulk goods stores only rivaled by Costco. Here is how Sam’s Club and Costco stack up today. Costco membership fees are $60 while sam’s clubs are $45. Sam's club has almost 600 stores, while Costco has over 750. Both Sam’s Club and Costco have there own credit card, there own gas stations, and their own pharmacies.
All said and done Walmart is a great store with a rich history and great prices, Walmart today has grown into a place where anyone can go to get practically anything they want beating out most major competitors, and Sam’s club has a great history also and components Walmart perfectly.
