Aaron Krause was the inventor of scrub daddy which is considered the most successful shark tank company ever worth over $170 million. This company has an interesting story on how it came to be.
He started out with a car washing business Which he sold to focus on producing the buffing pads.
Krasue developed the idea for the scrub daddy in 2007 while in the middle of fixing his warehouse’s machinery. This design had only 2 holes in it. He tried to sell it to body shops who thought it was overpriced.
In 2008 Aaron sold his business to 3M, but. “They had no interest in my original patented products, so they removed Scrub Daddy from the deal and bought the rest,” he says.
He kept a box full of his patient his products in storage until 2011 when he wanted to clean his lawn furniture. He tried out some of his old sponges and only then he found the scrub daddy’s ability.
“It’s amazing how many times Scrub Daddy almost didn’t happen,” Aaron laughs. “For three years, I had millions of dollars in sales sitting in an old box. I dipped the sponge into a bucket of hot water and suddenly it became completely soft.”
He had no idea that his sponge did this, The scrub daddy could have never been a thing
In addition The scrub daddy did not scratch, and the cold water caused the sponge to become firmer.
That same year he added the mouth to more easily clean dishes.
Next he had to go to action Aaron put $75,000 into production of the first Scrub Daddy
In 2012 the scrub daddy became its own company and it was on-air for 4 qvc shows But was still not located in any major retailers.
It was this year that the Scrub Daddy appeared on shark tank and a deal was made with lori Greiner 20% for $200,000 and that’s when the business started to take off.
After the show the scrub daddy skyrocketed in popularity and by 2014 the scrub daddy was located in Home Depot, Wal-Mart,Target,Kroger, and bed bath and beyond.
