An Efficient Car Swap: GLC Trains Safely "Chase" Each Other!
One of the biggest slow-downs for moving freight cars from Point A to Point B can be when the car is switched from one train to another. However, Michigan railroad Great Lakes Central seems to have this down to a science!
On July 11th, 2023, trains from Owosso and Cadillac met in Clare to swap trains. Within about half an hour, both trains had swapped power and cars, and left for their respective destinations!
This included an interesting 'spectacle', when light power for Cadillac ran south to grab its train, and the Owosso-bound train followed at walking speed. This was planned and orchestrated safely, and kept things moving to get those freight cars where they need to go.
