Vintage Speeders and Classic Geeps Meet on the Hocking Valley Scenic
On October 15th, 2022, Hocking Valley ran their usual trains from Nelsonville to East Logan and back. However, that day a group of people who owned railroad motorcars, or 'speeders', brought them up and ran from the depot to the shops and back, giving rides and raising money to help a young girl in Logan with a rare illness. Speeders were used to inspect track and perform other railroad duties before hi-railers.
I chased the 2:30 train up and back, and then stopped in to the depot and happened to spot Mike Mullins and his father's Western Maryland speeder, and I rode with him back to the shops to meet the returning train.
