Hi! I'm a senior dev with 20+ years exp across AAA and Indie game production. In this series I'm making my first horror game as a solo dev.
Welcome to Episode 3 of the Whispers in the Corn devlog series! In this update, I’m diving deeper into the design of a haunted cornfield environment set in the 1990s Midwest, inspired by the eerie worlds of Stephen King.
I’m balancing realistic graphics, rich lore, and procedural systems to make every playthrough unique.
This episode covers my development process, and the lessons learned from my “mad scientist” phase, where I tested gameplay, tuned horror mechanics, and tackled bugs. From crafting subtle cues like crickets going silent to perfecting a VHS-inspired camera, every element is designed to keep players on edge.
What’s next? Building out more environmental storytelling and setting up the final design of the scarecrow for Episode 4! If you enjoy following indie horror projects, don’t forget to like, subscribe, and visit the website for more updates.
🔧 Tools Used: Unity 2022 HDRP, Vegetation Engine, FMod, Map Magic, Megascans, Microsplat, and more.
