The one flaw with this great quad! Never use the Return feature at high altitudes or great distance from you. Better still, don't us it! The manual for this drone clearly states:
"The one key back home (Return Mode) function is a test feature and might not be stable. To avoid any losses or damage, customers had better not try this function at the beginning."
Since I was provided this drone by Potensic for test, evaluation and review I believed it necessary to test the "Return" at modest altitude and line of sight distance. I did so at around 30' altitude and 100' distance.
Otherwise this drone is a dream to fly for an old guy with a couple hundred hours on a couple of somewhat smaller quads. I did get a great 15 minute flight before on the first video. Regretfully the video is in the camera on the drone. The controller is great. Spring loaded sticks are a dream to use. Smooth and super responsive on a beautiful windless morning. The hover is smooth and clean. Just get to where you want to go and let go of the left stick. Right there she stays. Perfect for my cloud, sunset and sunrise pictures/videos. I also love the layout of the controller and the way various controls are labeled and easy to read. Great for a novice or old goat that can't remember too good. LOL
Despite the fact that it was lost I still have to give this beautiful quadcopter five stars. I would not have used the return key had I not needed to do so to really give this beauty a complete test drive for my review. Hopefully I will get it back when a wind finally knocks it down. I walk that area every day checking. I have got them back after two weeks. Packed the camera and drone in a box of rice for a couple days just to make sure all the moisture is going and they worked. Since Potensic clearly advised that the Return is a test feature the loss is my responsibility and not the drone.
I think the F183DH is the next step I will take from the Syma X5C-1
