A year ago, I created a tool and have since noticed numerous tutorials demonstrating the creation of fake holes using Transparency/Stencil masks, which are not optimized—often resulting in the entire background being set as transparent.
This simple technique utilizes a spline to generate a Virtual POM texture and a mesh ready for Nanite, eliminating the necessity for experimental features like Geometry Script (which in UE5.3 still gives me some errors) or dynamic/procedural mesh (post-bake).
I've also discovered another method for simulating a hole without the need to make the landscape or floor transparent. I'll be uploading a tutorial on this soon
