The Secret Mission
On a frigid Christmas night in 1776 Durham boats carried George Washington’s army across the icy Delaware River to attack a Hessian outpost in Trenton, NJ. The surprise attack succeeded and turned the tide of the war to the American side.
The symbolism becomes clear later in the opera.
