Pressure, Volume and Cheesecloth
by Tina Marie Bergelt, Nicole Barbera, Giovanna Ambroselli 2012

When the glass is inverted, some of the liquid in the glass leaks out which increases the volume of the gas in the glass. When the volume of the air in the glass increases, the pressure of the air decreases. The atmospheric pressure on the outside of the glass holds the water in place. Furthermore, while the cheesecloth is porous, the cohesive forces between water molecules keep much of the water from leaking out. P.S. Use a smaller piece of cheesecloth than we did.
