READY TO GOVERN: Uganda's Opposition Grapples with a Lost Liberation
Frustrated with an almost four decade dictatorship, Uganda's opposition fraternity is grappling with the people's lost liberation that culminated with Mr. Museveni's ascendance to power. As the Uganda People Defence Forces (UPDF) prepares to celebrate its 42nd Tahere Sita Celebration is Mbarara on Monday, February 06, 2023, many members of the opposition feel betrayed by the force that prides itself as the "People Army".
Several members of the opposition community suggest that while they are ready to govern, the UPDF has deliberately served to maintain Mr. Museveni in power. The opposition community alleges that UPDF is more of a personal/family force than a people's army has it portrays itself.
STATE OF THE NATION'S Henry Ssali seats down with General Moses Bigirwa, Allan Kitonsa, and James Mugeni to examine the opposition's readiness to govern. What are the opposition's strategies to govern when the opportunity avails itself? What is their vision for Ugandans? Can the opposition effectively govern while in power when they're struggling to cooperate (even among themselves) while out of power? How do they envision the promised land (New Uganda) to look like?
