Making New Waves in Retirement
He may be a rookie lifeguard, but recent retiree Mike from the YMCA of Greater Burlington (Vt.) is using his life experiences and passion for all things swimming to fill a community need: a shortage of lifeguards. Tapping into semi-retired, retired or other active older adults could be a way to address the nationwide lifeguard shortage while also providing opportunities for retirees to stay physically fit, socially connected and give back to their communities.
