We were requested by our client to restore an ottoman blade & scabbard and make it look like an example they had seen in a museum. The shortened tail tang was to be converted back to an ottoman shamshir style horn handle with brass fittings that would suite the existing scabbard mounts. We finished the handle with a traditional cross guard, brass strap and hand engraved them with patterns that were seen on the scabbard mounts. The wooden core scabbard was rotten, cracked and the brass mounts had started to split. We stabalised the wooden core removing any mold and strengthening it so that it could be used once again. The blade required alot of polishing but we were able to keep its integrity while revealing a beautiful twist damascus pattern.
