Nicaragua - Manila to El Convento
We passed through customs and immigration upon our arrival at Managua airport, we were then transferred to Leon by car. The journey took approximately one and a half hours.
Hotel El Convento is a beautiful colonial-style property located in the heart of historic Leon. The site was formerly the home of the San Francisco Convent, Leon's oldest convent, which was founded in 1639 by the Reverend Fray Pedro de Zuniga. In 1830, religious groups were expelled from Nicaragua and the convent fell into disrepair. In 1960, it was abandoned and demolished. The 31 standard rooms and one suite feature lovely antique furniture and ornate decorations from the colonial period. El Convento also has a wonderful courtyard swimming pool perfect for escaping the searing heat of the city for an afternoon.
