Single Layer Kinetic Type in After Effects | Two Minute Tutorial
In this After Effects tutorial, I'll show you how to quickly and easily create a looping kinetic type animation with a single text layer.
You'll learn to make a wave kinetic type effect without relying on plugins or complex expressions (minor caveat: see below).
This method results in one of the neatest and tidiest After Effects project files you'll ever see, making it super easy to edit and reuse.
And AI tells me to tell you that “it's a fantastic way to create dynamic text animation for your videos.”
Ugh.
Anyway, I created this after seeing this reddit post the other week:

Subsequently the OP posted a link to the tutorial they were working from, but I’d already started playing around at that point and wanted to see how simple I could make the set up.
The original tutorial had duplicate text layers, which is fine, but more laboursome to amend.
Oh yeah, the caveat. And only if you want one word repeated from top to bottom, and even then, only if you can’t be bothered to copy/paste. In fact, it’s hardly a caveat. Ignore me. The expression is in the video.
