Hello and welcome to my second r6 tips and tricks video Operator Edition. The operator we will be discussing in this video is Smoke. He is one of the first operators you would have used within siege, being the first defender in the lineup. Smoke is a 2 speed, 2 armour operator who has a remote gas grenade that inflicts damage to the enemy over time. But first, let’s talk about his loadout.
For Smoke’s primary weapon, the player has the choice between the M590A1 shotgun and the FMG-9 submachine gun. The shotgun is favoured by the defenders that enjoy holding close range angles, this is due to its capability to injure an enemy with one shot. Furthermore, the shotgun has a decent breaching capability, something to really consider if you do not have any impact nades on your team. These things, however, are traded off with the fact that the weapon only has 7 bullets in each mag and a short delay between shooting each bullet. The other option, the FMG-9, tends to be used by people who struggle to use the smg-11 secondary weapon. This weapon is great at medium to short ranges – probably a weapon that I would recommend to new players within siege. #
For his secondary weapon, Smoke has a pretty easy decision to make – the same as Sledge. But as this is a different video, I’ll run you through it: The choice is between the P226 Mark 25 pistol and the SMG-11. The pistol is a pretty standard pistol within siege with nothing to really write home about. The SMG-11, however, is like having a second primary weapon. It has 17 rounds in each mag and an insanely high fire rate of 1270 rounds per minute. These are counteracted by a very hard to control recoil. Nevertheless, this is still a much better choice over the pistol and can combat some of the best guns within the game if you give it some practice.
For the gadgets, smoke has the choice between the deployable shield and barbed wire. These are dependent on how you wish to play smoke. The barbed wire is good for getting them all important sound cues whilst also slowing down the enemy, allowing for easier individual kills – yet they are easily destructible. The deployable shield is much sturdier and can be used to cause issues for the attackers to get into the site, as well as to obscure their vision. As well as this, it can be used to get slightly different angles onto players whilst exposing less of your body. The shield can only be destroyed by certain gadgets or special abilities so could create a longer lasting resistance.
At the beginning of each round, Smoke is equipped with 3 remote gas grenades, which will cause damage to everything within its radius – other than Smoke himself. The gas grenades are thrown and stick onto any surface and last for around 11 seconds before dissipating. These can stay here for as long as the player needs until he activates the smoke and the toxic spray is released. The cloud spreads parallel to the surface that the grenade is attached to and will partially obscure the vision of the given area. The gas cloud deals 15 points of damage every half a second regardless of an operator’s armour and speed rating. This means that a gas cloud can down an operator in just over 3 seconds. As well as this, any attacker that is under the effects of Finka’s adrenal surge will take double the damage, thus they will be downs in around 2 seconds if they are unable to escape. A well-placed smoke can be lethal when used with barbed wire as the enemy has a reduction in movement speed. Furthermore, this can be accomplished through sound cues so you don’t even have to combat the enemy head on.
Finally let’s move onto the playstyles. A common way to play smoke is as an anchor, sitting in site and ensuring that he does not die – if you are playing smoke and you die early into the round you have lost your impact entirely. The idea is to stay alive and save your gas grenades for as long as possible to make it extremely hard for the attackers to make any sort of move into the site. Another common playstyle is to almost do the complete opposite and roam the map. The versatility of his weapons mean that he is able to get kills quickly before falling away, and pop a gas grenade to buy himself some extra time. Smoke can utilise a vertical playstyle as well through the breaching capabilities of the shotgun, as shown on maps such as Border.
Overall, Smoke is a solid operator that can make the attacker’s chances near impossible in the latter parts of a round. He requires some skill and experience to be able to use his guns and unique ability to their full extent but will make you an all-round better siege player if you do so.
