An earlier performance of the song is on Youtube. It was posted in 2017 to commemorate both Carolyn's birthday and her retirement. This performance is from Steve Gillette's Songwriters' Workshop of 2018, and it is modified slightly from the earlier version with suggestions from Steve and other workshop participants. I share it today as part of my lead up to Valentine's Day 2022.

My Here and Now

Dreams come easy like the leaves in spring
As a wistful whim or a soul set fire
We're thankful for the hope they bring
Or we curse the hurt of unfulfilled desire

We've all had our share of dreams
But dreams so often fade
A few may see the light of day
Most languish in the shade

When it comes to memories
You know I'd lose a few
And yet I wouldn't change a thing
If it meant not loving you
No, I wouldn't change a thing
If it meant not loving you

I would forget each new regret
But I haven't figured how
Still, I'm luckier than most, I guess,
Just to have my here and now

When it comes to memories
You know I'd lose a few
And yet I wouldn't change a thing
If it meant not loving you

If it meant not having you
In my life,
in my heart,
I wouldn't change a single thing
If it meant not loving you
Here and now
In my heart

When it comes to memories
You know I'd lose a few
Yet I wouldn't change a thing
If it meant not loving you

If it meant not having you
In my life,
in my heart,
I wouldn't change a single thing
If it meant not loving you
Here and now
In my life

Now the only thing I want to do
Is to live this dream with you
