PHOTOSYNTHESIS LAB: Floating Leaf Disks: AP Biology
This video is about photosynthesis and covers the AP Biology lab "What factors affect the rate of photosynthesis in living leaves". This lab is commonly called Floating Leaf Disk Assay. This lab fits into the AP Biology curriculum in Unit 3: Cellular Energetics, under 3.5 Photosynthesis. It can also be adjusted and scaled for non-AP Biology classes as well as middle school classes.
This lab can be done in many ways - I'd love to hear your thoughts and feedback in the comments. What works for you? What hasn't worked?
I've gone through the details of the lab and presented part one and part two. This will hopefully serve as a good introduction and primer for teachers and students. Teachers can also use this video and its companion video: Floating Leaf Disk Timelapse [10x] for students to use at home or during distanced classes or to help students jump directly into part 2 where they change their own variable.
