It's a new year which means new fees and increases at Amazon. Of the many fees discussed in our earlier, we'll take a deeper dive into the specifics of Amazon's Multi-Channel Fulfillment Fees (MCF) and how it will impact your margins if you are utilizing MFC.
What is MCF, or Multi-Channel Fulfillment?
This is when a seller utilizes their Amazon inventory to fulfill orders that are coming from selling channels outside of Amazon. For example, you may fulfill the orders from your Shopify website with the inventory that you've already shipped into Amazon's fulfillment centers. Or, your eBay orders are fulfilled from your Amazon inventory.
In the same way Amazon will fulfill your own Amazon orders with your inventory (FBA - Fulfilled by Amazon), they will do the same for other selling channels (Multi Channel Fulfillment/MCF) orders.
It's a great setup - but it's getting more expensive. Some sellers will actually see a slight reduction in costs for items under 6 ounces, while others may see an increase.
